Monastery

The Buddhist Society of Canada aims to establish a Forest Monastery in Canada rooted in the Thai Forest Tradition. Our goal is to create a peaceful and supportive environment where people from all walks of life can come together and practice the Dhamma in line with the teachings of the Buddha

The monastery is intended to serve as a training monastery, offering a dedicated environment for the ordination and training of monastics in the Thai Forest Tradition, supporting the continued development of the monastic community in Canada.

In addition to ordaining and supporting monastics, the monastery will serve as a center of teaching and practice for laypeople, offering meditation sessions, teachings, and retreats—all free from the distractions of urban life. It will also provide opportunities for lay practitioners to stay and engage in practice for both short and extended periods.

Manitoba has been chosen as the location for the monastery due to its quiet natural setting and central location. While the monastery is planned to be established in Manitoba, it is intended to serve as a training monastery and a center for Buddhist practice for people from across Canada and around the world.
